Schizotypy

Basic Characteristics

  • Description

Schizotypy is a psychological concept that describes a spectrum of personality characteristics and qualities related to schizophrenia and psychosis. Schizotypy exists in contrast to the typically categorical view of psychosis, that one either has it or does not.

  • History

Eugen Blueler was one of the first to discard the idea that there was a clear separation between sanity and madness. Instead he viewed psychosis as an extreme expression of thoughts and behaviors that can be present in varying degrees throughout the general population.
