Focus Training

Basic Characteristics

  • Description

This is a home based parent-training program that focuses on promoting compliance, mutual enjoyment, joint attention, and language development. In an initial pilot study, the children whose parents received the Focus Training made more progress in language development than children who only received government paid services. However, only parental measures were used.1

  • History

Criticisms

A second study which looked at the effectiveness of the Focus Training using both professional and parent measures, larger sample sizes than the pilot study, and a followup evaluation 1 year after the conclusion of the training found no significant effects of treatment on outcome.1
