Basic Task Description

In the R-K paradigm participants were presented with pairs of words and pictures and were instructed to remember the target word (presented in CAPITALS), the color of the picture of the target word (an index of intra-item associative memory), and the paired word (an index of inter-item associative memory). Before the task began, participants were given examples of the types of questions that would be asked in the item and associative memory recognition phases. As a pre-test measure, participants were given six example sentences describing memories and asked whether each was reflective of a Remember or a Know memory. Participants who got fewer than four out of six questions correct were excluded.
