Freesurfer Quality Control

While performing the quality control of the test subjects some problems arose in the overall integrity of the images checked. These test subjects exhibited the overlapping interference on their brainmask of the headphones provided during the MRI. In order to avoid the inability to use much of this data, a ranking system was created in order create a method of determining the severity of the interference. Ranking was created with the idea of splitting different factors into easily identifiable categories. Two factors existed within each subject affected by the interference. Factor one was the absence/existence of the interference on one or more layers of the brain (white vs gray matter). Factor two was whether the interference affected the overall integrity of the image (added unwanted extensions to the image).

Four ranking levels were created to differentiate the many levels of headphone interference.

RANKING SYSTEM

In rank 1 the interference only exists within gray matter and does not add unwanted portions/edges to the image.

In rank 2 the interference exists only within gray matter and adds unwanted portions/edges to the image.

In rank 3 the interference cross the boundary between gray and white matter, but does not add unwanted portions/edges to the image.

In rank 4 the interference crosses the boundary between gray and white matter and adds unwanted portions/edges to the image.

Any subjects with the rank 0 exhibited no headphone interference.
