MR Safety Certification
Sonata 1.5T and Trio 3T MR Scanners
All users of the MRI equipment are required to have MR safety training. Individuals who are not MR safety certified by the BMC cannot enter the scanner console rooms. Study participants are excluded and are the responsibility of the MR safety certified individual performing the scan.
To start the MR safety certification process,
1. Make sure that you have a Brain Mapping database account, since training records are stored with these accounts. New accounts can be requested via the link found here.
2. Review the online safety information in the MR Safety Manual.
3. Email Trent Thixton to attend the safety orientation.
At the safety orientation,
4. You will watch a 75-minute safety orientation consisting of viewing a safety DVD followed by a short presentation of site specific safety issues.
- Sessions for the DVD and site specific presentation are held in the ALBMC main conference room.
- Sessions are typically scheduled twice monthly.
5. Trent will administer a safety quiz that covers the online materials, the DVD and the site specific presentation. You need a passing score to continue in the safety certification process.
6. Trent will lead an orientation on the safety features of the scanner room(s).
After the safety orientation,
7. Email Roger Woods or Jeffry Alger to arrange a practical safety examination, during which you need to demonstrate a working knowledge of the safety features and procedures in the scanner room. You need a passing score to become MR safety certified.
Recertification
Annual safety retraining and certification is provided online via the Brain Mapping Center database:
1. Log onto the ALBMC Database.
2. Under Safety, select MR Safety Recertification.
3. Pass the online recertification quiz.
